I've given blood for years but since they brought in the appointment system haven't given blood at all due to the long wait for those who prefer not to commit to a specific appointment in advance. I'd be interested to hear the experience of others in giving blood recently

I never make an appointment and I've never had to wait long.

Gave blood on Monday for the second ever time. Booked an appointment and was only about 20mins behind schedule. First time I went to give blood I did not have an appointment and waited for the best part of 3 hours to donate.
I prefer the appointment system.

My wife used to work for the Blood collecting lot some years ago before the appointments were used. It was introduced to try and reduce the 'rush hour' donors who would end up waiting a long time. Now with the new appointment system people still wait a long time and it has put many donors off donating sadly.

I don't see why all the beds should be used for appointments. Surely a couple of beds could be used just for walk-ins. I haven't been since the first time after the appointments came in and I was told I'd have to wait "for as long as it takes"

I agree with you EBM. Like I said since the appointments system was introduced the donor headcount has gone down. Its was estimated then that only 6% of the population donated blood regularly. It would be interesting to know what it is now.
