Toss up between the Brewers and the Elephants Ars.e hole. Both full of knuckle draggers shouting at television screens displaying sport. Oh joy.

I vote for the elephant. I hear their clientele (and staff) shouting abuse most nights.

Interesting points.
Don't think any pub in Lewes would survive with the staff shouting abuse most nights.
A quick phone call will normally help to get noise matters sorted, annonymous mud flinging on t'interweb doesn't get people very far, but then again I think Blatantly Offensive may just be trolling, as seems to be the sport of choice at the moment.

If only you'd take me up on my suggestion to show opera instead of sporting events, I think your pub would be a lot more pleasant Huw. Maybe have opera in one room and show classic Olivier performances in the other?

It is well known that pubs are for riff raff...at least we know where the dole scroungers, alcoholics, wife beaters and teenage deliquents are of an evening....

It's a rare alcoholic or dole scrounger who can afford to drink in pubs these days, and any wife beater worth his salt should surely be at home beating the wife.

Staff and clientelle shouting abuse in a pub ???????....they'll be serving alcohol next.
Terrible state of affairs.

Toque, you have to get properly fuelled up on Stella before going home to the wife. If something's worth doing it's worth doing right.

The teenage deliquents seem pretty fond of the Tesco car park these days and alcoholics are rarely welcomed in pubs. Thanks to pubwatch and ever increasing prices, that little list is pretty much all the people you'd least expect to find in pubs. Maybe some of you who don't like them should try visiting a pub once in a while, you may well be pleasantly surprised. Not the Elly though, it smells funny and there's far too many Welsh in there.

I took some friends from "the smoke" on a middle-class pup stroll several weekends ago and they were surprised by the friendliness of everybody in Lewes, by the fantastic varieties of beers on offer and the "low" prices.....
That was the Dorset, the Gardeners, the JHT, the Lewes Arms and the Ellie. Great evening and a chance to show of our little town! Well done everybody for playing nice!

Tax Payer- so ALL of LDC? The bin men, the people who do such a good job at maintaining the parks, those people in the Tourist Information centre, those who provide people like you with housing benefits, those who deal with the noise from the pubs and anti-social behaviour, the recycling people, dog wardens, pest control?????????? LDC is not just the planning department, spending their time annoying the residents of Lewes, there are many others whose roles you might actually appreciate.

The place that gets that honour is County Hall. Pubwise, it's got to be 'The Crown' .... or the "Black Horse" with its eggy Stella.
