I was told this evening that Bentley Wildfowl Trust is closing, insolvent with £300K debts.
Is this true?

£.300,000?....Can you buy a house for that in Lewes? It sounds a lot of money to me but ,in the world of business, it's pocket change.

It's not exactly a BIG business is it ! Surprised they managed to get that much credit in this day and age. Unless they've got themselves too many flash motors !

It is a shame, but the only real attraction there is the railway, (if it’s still going) the high ropes and wood fair. Went there a lot when kids where young, and it was ok, just expensive for what it was. Enjoyed the woods and trains more then the cars and wildfowl park. Has such potential.

Didn't this happen once before and it was saved? Quite some time ago. My memory's vague but I thought it couldn't be sold because it was left in some kind of trust for the public. I seem to recall either LDC or ESCC being involved. Does anyone have a better memory than me? I think it may have been talked about on the Forum. Just feel uneasy since since LDC appears to e riding rough shod over the caveats enshrined in the Downs school and estate gift to Seaford. A commercial shop hardly fits with recreational activity? Housing at the Bentley could be tempting? Land grabs are all the go.

I have a vague recollection that ESCC were among the trustees, when it was "rescued" before.
That was a long time ago though.

ESCC ran Bentley for a number of years but rising running costs forced them to sell it back to the Askew family.
