Witnessed the "shift change" at North court (off Cliffe High street).
two "beggars" swapping over, talking about their takings and then they swapped over positions, one handing the other a set of keys. House keys or car keys I wonder.
But then they are not fussed as they know people are stupid enough to take them at face value and give them money.
An age old problem judging by previous posts on here.
simple solution - if you want to give something then donate to a local homeless charity, then you know it goes somewhere rather than drugs or booze etc.

None of your salary goes on drugs or booze then? Funny I have seen people asleep on the street in Lewes at 11pm. Can't tar everyone the same

I'm not sure where it's all gone wrong, the "beggars" have setup a few prime pitches, have gone totally unchallenged for years and they've grown in confidence (the boots prime pitch is taking over, so many fag ends).
Where are the police and councils in all of this, at least half of these people aren't needy (they won't starve if not given money), they are housed and on benefits, they are begging for beer money.

The poor chap who has created a shanty outside Boots. Absolutely no idea how to help, loathe to give money as have seen him walking through town barefoot in a zombie heroin state too many times, but am stunned he’s still there. Stunned he’s still alive.

I agree, its amazing that he is still alive, as obviously doing a large amount of something! He probably does have a mental health issue, but it might well be that he has fried his brains on stuff. There does seem to be about 5 regulars here-yes they probably chase others off their patch.

He only arrived in the summer, as a perfectly normal looking smart young man, he has certainly lost the plot now. He was comatosed last week, eyes completely rolled back. Must have a death wish.

The young chap who’s always in a great hurry and needs a belt was doing a roaring trade this morning up on the high street. As soon as he got given some change he jumped up and rushed off somewhere. Curiouser and curioser.

People bend and give offerings - take away coffee - or whatever, or kneel and converse. That in particular makes me cringe, it's like some kind of weird absolution, then walk away. Or else they walk on by. This is happening on our streets. A young man hurtles blindly by, his 'self' so much less now after a year or so. And we all watch and some make judgement and some are ashamed. People in all but fact are dying on our streets. We're all culpable as is the system we live under. It's medieval to stand by, watch and judge. It sounds ridiculous but isn't this something the idle LTC could focus its
compassionate eye on. No one chooses in the real sense of the word to beg, sit or sleep on the streets.
