Bee Swarm

Now's the time of year that bees start to swarm - if you see a swarm of bees (usually high up in a tree or on a building - the bees all clump round the resting queen) don't panic. Usually they're pretty docile as they are not protecting young or food.
Instead, look up 'bee swarm sussex amanda' on Google to find your local coordinator (or Lewes Bee Society') and they'll usually come and collect the swarm and re-home it.
Bees are rare so please don't kill them or get them exterminated.

We need bees. Be sure that your hives don't collapse

I came across a swarm last summer it was very scary and magnificent at the same time. I'd love to keep bees but don't have the time or funds to do it. I wonder if any bee keepers out there would like to keep a hive on my allotment?

Old Cynic - get in touch with the Brighton & Lewes Bee Soc (search on Google) - there are loads of beekeepers around who'd love to do just that!
Good news - it seems that exterminators will endeavour to remove rather than kill them but do try the local Society first.
And eat local honey - it's good for hayfeaver!

I saw a very large swam of bees both outside and inside the Elly last November 5th.

They're not at all dangerous. Half a shandy bass is enough to render them completely docile.

If you see a swarm, ring the police HQ - they have a list of bee keepers in the area. They ring the keeper (or pass the number to you), and the keeper will come and try to harvest them. Useful to know if you come across a swarm in an area like to cause havoc.
