New parking restrictions come into force today.
The village car park is now 24 hours , no return within 2 hours.
This means that the CEO's in blue will come every day.
Watch this space, ha, ha.

Oh joy... why on earth do the ESCC parking scheme administrators see fit to impose their scheme our village? We don't have any problems with parking... we do however have problems with the jack-booted minions of our ESCC overlords.

...on second thoughts there is that blue car by the roundabout...

Blue car will soon be moved to the top of Grantham Bank, perhaps followed by silver car and green car too......solve one problem, create another !

Oh well, Grantham Bank always looks like a car park anyway.

So, residents object to the change from 72 hours to 24 hour parking. So do the Parish Council, the District Councillor and the County Councillor. Democracy?
But think, the regulations have only just been approved. How long does it take to agree the wording, design and manufacture all those new signs for car parks in the whole of the District? Weeks, months? You've got it. So much for 'consultation' -
and common sense! Now watch the displacement of vehicle......

I am curious. If (as I sometimes do) I come to Barcombe and go for a country walk (over two hours) spending my money on lunch, and usually a few groceries from the shop, where can I now park?

The bluebottles visited Barcombe a few weeks ago, at sleepy lunchtime as I was driving through. I poked my nose into the shop to give a warning; which was well appreciated.
There is no parking problem in Barcombe. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

Visitor: Continue to enjoy Barcombe. Barcombe Mills car park is free - but no overnighting. Barcombe High Street car park is free but has today been restricted from 72 to 24 hours, which is upsetting the residents, and, wev'e been experiencing the dreaded double line creep. Some on street free parking - busy evenings and weekends Lots of this deemed by all as a bit OTT.
Recommend the chicken, filled with cheese and covered with bacon, goes down well with the Harveys!

Thank you extra. It sounds ludicrous, and can only put people off. Not me though.

There surely must be one complete tit-head behind this ludicrous parking scheme. Who is he/she?

I think you will find that the culprit is a former railway employee who has worked his way up to becoming an MP.

OK. That's not the odious James Page then?

Surely you are not suggesting that Norman Baker is responsible for this mess? I'd understood he'd been against it from the start. I was thinking it might have been a Tory councillor from ESCC.

Since when was our humble and glorified leader James Page (oh I am not worthy....etc) a member of parliament? Dingbat.

With regard stupid decisions such as this by our parish/town/district/county councils how many of you take the trouble to attend council meetings to voice your opposition? Do not make the mistake of thinking it makes no difference to the final outcome, it can and does. The greatest benefit is you see and hear the cllr's that pay no heed of their community, presenting you with the opportunity to cast your vote elsewhere at forthcoming elections. Minutes of meetings do not always accurately record the the "feel" of a meeting or indeed record all that was said, you need to be there.

Just to clarify matters...the culprits are the County Council, and Barcombe's own county councillor lives in the village. As far as I know, she failed to support the Parish Council in opposing the silly and petty changes. If I am wrong, I apologise to her profusely!
with a few honourable exceptions, most Lewes District councillors have supported the scheme since its introduction. Remember this at the next local election!

The minutes of who did/didn't support are probably on the Parish Council web site. There were a number of Residents at the meetings and they should be well documented, look for the meeting with Bee Lewis of LDC.

Realist, you are talking of the sainted Donna Edmunds (sainted, apart from she want to privatise the National Health and is still inexperienced enough to think libertarianism is an option).

So Donna... what is your view on this (and as if by magic....).

jrs. We've been here before. It is easy for you to speak from the luxurious position of your comfortable retirement in Polegate.
I am working, raising a family and trying to turn a hovel into a home. I do not have the time to attend meetings. I expect my counsellors to work for me. That is what they are there for! In a small, village like Barcombe the councillors are connected to the opinion of the villages through normal day to day contact (small villages are good and healthy like that).

Apologies are due! The new car park regulations are the folly of Lewes District Council, I am not sure what stance Donna Edmunds took on this. The on-street yellow lines, and the overall parking fiasco of recent years, is down to the East Sussex County Council, with the enthusiastic collaboration of the District Council. again, I am unsure what opinion ESCC Cllr. ros StPierre has on the changes, but she has been a supporter of the entire scheme in the past. I would be happy to be corrected if wrong.

Please see minutes of Barcombe Parish Council on their website - Full Council Meeting 160413. It appears ESCC Councillor Ros was present but not Cllr Edmonds.

Cllr. St.Pierre's opinion is that we should be out of our cars and on to buses. That is a quote from a Liberal circular before the May elections.

And so we should, and on our bicycles too. Much better for all of us. However unfortunately not terribly practical much of time:

* Not many buses frequent Barcombe now
* Not great if you are in a hurry
* Not great for carrying lots of stuff

Cllr St Pierre is idealist, but unrealistic. Public Transport has been allowed to degenerate to the point that many of us who would like to use it..don't. She also continues to fail to sort out the Car Parking mess, so that people aren't dissuaded from parking by the station and using the train more.
