I hope that you are right, it seems that after the 'Sold' sign has gone away, a BPM 'To Let' sign immediately goes up.

I would love to know who is renting all of these houses, there must be at least 5 new rental properties on the market each week. Lewes is in dire need of housing stock for people (not cash buyers or private landlords!) to buy not rent.

We rent in Lewes, buggered if we could afford to buy anywhere. The biggest problem is not enough properties and agencies to normalise prices. Before we found our current place, looked at two identical houses next to each other let with two different agencies but the asking rent was nearly £500 difference a month. Madness.

People rent because they can't afford a mortgage, unable to access social housing etc etc. Lewes district council try and make you rent privately due to the shortage of social housing. BPM are the best in town. They are reasonably priced unlike some others in town. As far as I am aware malling estate houses are gold mines for landlords to rent out. Don't think that BPM are buying them up.

Any private tenants on here? If you have used any of the Lewes agents, how did you find them? Any of the exploitative last minute charges that you weren't expecting, as often happens in Brighton, etc? Or agents conning you/ lying to you? Or all reasonably straight and upfront?

One thing that may help is the new proposed development in the phoenix quarter. 340 properties are included in the proposal and we are hearing that the are affordable! Perhaps the increased volume will help even out the prices a bit!

We were private but had to go with an agency for new place but they're not based in Lewes. Have had no problems with them so far (St. James)

Looked at properties with BPM, Stanley & Partners and Ashton Burkinshaw - went with the latter because they seemed to want to try and match my needs - unfortunately it is a landlords market. If I could have had the deposit the £925 I pay to rent a two bed house per month could have bought me somewhere no problems. I really feel for youngsters - and by that I include people in their 20's - who have no deposit, and no hope of getting one if they start renting privately.

I used BPM. They are fine, but of course they represent the landlord, not the tenant, so a little distant. Da ladeez are pleasant.
However, their charges for easily, cheaply-available reference and credit checks are high.
