My doorbell packed up today.
I went to Argos online at 5.00 and bought one with delivery tonight.
I hope Argos stays with us.

Hoping that this thread is now redundant and I don't face the opprobrium of the righteous. I just watched the Big Freeze of 1963 on YouTube, it's made me turn the heating up. Snow and ice from Boxing Day till February and I'm just starting to remember it. The sea froze at Eastbourne and I recall sliding on the Pells where the ice was at least a foot thick. They say it was the coldest weather that century, even colder than 1948 but I wasn't around then. Surprisingly there wasn't a lot of colds and flu that year. I don't remember people mentioning viruses in those days.

I won't disagree with the content of the post. But I must congratulate you on the most spectacular departure from thread of all time!

Argos solemnly inform you of your collection point, when they only have one.
Even the staff think it daft that you cannot make a payment against your account in the shop.
Scrapping the hard copy of the catalogue was a bad idea. You could look at it if all the terminals were in use. The hard copy was easier to quickly and reliably find something. I once needed a device to dry washing in the flat. I entered "clothes horse", to be offered a tee-shirt covered in pictures of equines!

Drying washing in the flat is OK when it's hot, but this time of year I find the vertical more effective - horses for courses.

Argos is one of those places that reminds me of waiting in a social security office in the 80s. McDonald's is another.
