Anti-gay "Sussex Martyrs Commemoration Council"

A group listed on some local councils' websites as involved in "local history", the so-called "Sussex Martyrs Commemoration Council", has published this hate speech on the front page of its website:
"... few would deny today that such evil and depravity walk on every side, and when even the vilest men, such as sodomites, are exalted."
It is illegal to describe gay people as "the vilest of men" in a category of "evil and depraved".
This group should be given a chance to redact its comment before protests are organised.
Would anyone from the group, which has met in Lewes, care to apologise and publish its equality and discrimination policy? I am waiting.

Why would it come as a surprise that there are fundamentalist Christian types in a town that exalts the execution by burning alive of Catholic rebels?

I'm not sure that exalts is quite the right word. Does Catholic rebels mean Protestants? I find the whole business very odd. The biggest mass execution was on midsummer day, an important day in the pagan calendar. The martyrs memorial is an obelisk, a phallic symbol of sun worship and Thomas Woodman, one of the victims referred to the Catholic clergy as priests of Baal. I think I understand what your getting at, a commemoration is very similar to a celebration. What we think of as a war memorial is also an obelisk topped with Nike the goddess of victory. What we see as memorial to lives tragically lost in a futile conflict between power mad elites may be seen by them as a monument to the gods of war and human sacrifice.

PS Ironically Lord Kitchener was reputed to be gay.

My reference to Catholic rebels was accurate, in that Lewes is of course rightly famous for its bonfire celebration which, I'm led to believe, has something to do with events of November 5th, 1605, rather than the Marian persecution of fifty years earlier.

I see where the confusion has arisen, were Guy Fawkes and his fellow conspirators burned alive? Or is that a conspiracy theory?!

Guy Fawkes followed the catholic way of being an enthusiastic sodomite
A practice still in existence to this day
On 29 Jun 2020 at 1:30pm Ferret wrote:
It seems Guy Fawkes and his co-conspirators weren't burnt on a bonfire at all. Instead they were hanged and chopped up while still half alive in the time-honoured tradition reserved for traitors. I'm not sure why people burn his effigy. As for Blatant Liar's comment, I haven't found any evidence of that. It sounds like rabid anti-catholic propaganda worthy of Pastor Michael Hobbis himself. .

Lord Kitchener, guy Fawkes and I think all Catholics 'outed' so far on this thread. Does anyone really care about what people get up to sexually anymore apart from the Sussex martyrs commemoration council? They don't appear to be a thriving organisation.

As far as I understand it, the term "sodomite" does not refer specifically to gay people. It's more general than that, and I'm sure our god-fearing bible-bashers don't discriminate. I've always wondered why they're obsessed with other people's sexual activity, but I can't quite get to the bottom of it.
On 29 Jun 2020 at 9:48pm David Stanley wrote:
People seem to care a great deal that their sexual activities should be universally approved of and celebrated rather than just tolerated.

Don't you just love all these christians and their gospel of love. If there was a god - which fortunately there is no evidence for - it weould be mightily amused with their antics.
On 29 Jun 2020 at 10:07pm Ferret wrote:
Indeed, Basil. All the evidence seems to point to a complete absence any god of love whose benign presence watches over us good people. Being a good person doesn't protect you from terrible things happening. It's no coincidence that belief in god has waned since the horrors of two world wars, the Holocaust etc and the creation of mass media revealing the truth of it to us. The word of god as revealed by all religions seems not to make much sense these days.

Belief in God has declined as the growth of science has given us better explanations for everything ferret. The growth in science allowed devastating world wars and mass media as well.
On 30 Jun 2020 at 9:11am Ferret wrote:
Well yes, Nevillman, I certainly agree with you on that, but I'm intrigued by David Stanley's last comment which seems to cast a little doubt in the direction of the truth of the horrors of war and perhaps the Holocaust. Or was it just a more general question about the accuracy of everything presented to us as history or news?
On 30 Jun 2020 at 10:04am David Stanley wrote:
Just general...just so we don't forget the mass media are those who push for wars as opposed to counselling peace and reconciliation. Regarding the " Holocaust" I don't get involved in disputing facts about numbers or technical details but I am wary of its totemic power to shut down human rights enquiries. Look no further than Starmer last week.

@David Stanley: Why did you put Holocaust in quotes? And what on earth did you mean with "I am wary of its totemic power to shut down human rights enquiries." I'm intrigued to know whose human rights are threatened by the use of the word.
On 30 Jun 2020 at 12:00pm Tom Pain wrote:
There are as many here among us who would take the name of Science in vain,as would take that of God; using it to cover their own nefarious ambitions. This is particularly evident at the moment in this febrile Time of Covid.
The term "holocaust" is religious in nature and it must be held in mind that what is sacred in one religion is not in another. It's obvious that people these days have little respect for religion, especially other people's, and to expect it is futile. Honi spot qui mal mal y pence.

Please forgive my inappropriate punctuation....I have been told I need to "educate myself...."

I'm sure we have all had quite enough of the sort of education on supply these days. I just wish my keyboard didn't make mistakes for me.
