Just passed another cafe (sorry, ‘coffee house’) which will be opening on Station St. I love coffee as much as the next sleep-deprived person, but I wonder who keeps them all financially viable. Good luck to them, though.

It’s good for the local economy especially in summer when the South London hipsters head over. Nothing wrong with another coffee shop, much better than having a pound shop on the street.

Surely a high risk that as one opens, another will shut?
I'll be supporting the lovely lady at the little place opposite....

There are over 60 places in Lewes where you can get a coffee already. What is this coffee monopoly? Is it really such a great business idea?

Be easier to name those that don't sell coffee

The 4 identical promotional leaflets they delivered to my house overnight or early this morning are of no use as they were dumped on my front path in the pouring rain and are now mush. But good luck to them with today's opening.

I went in with my daughter hoping to find something a little different to all the existing coffee outlets in town. Sadly I was disappointed to find it’s just another clone coffee shop selling pretty much the same products as all the rest. The coffee was good (a small is too small and a large too expensive to justify) the chocolate cake was ok and my daughter said the hot chocolate was alright. The welcome was warm and I wish them well but they really need to do something differently to all the rest for me to justify returning.

Especially as The Trading Post is opening next week. It’s pretty much the same although they are roasting coffee. (I have been in the Ship Street, BRIGHTON Trading Post already). I wish them luck and feel sorry for the Lewes Patisserie after being closed so long for the sink hole, to have another coffee shop open opposite. Patisserie’s food very superior if expensive.

Yeah, more flyers tossed in the general direction of my front door. They'll be getting them back in the same manner. Foook 'em.

They might well have hired a leafleter, so would probably be mortified to hear they’ve lost customers through it!

Is it me or is there a limit to how good a cup of coffee can be? In town we can buy artisan, organic, freshly ground, fairtrade, hand ground, elbow ground etc. To me there's either Nescafe or fresh.

Given that everywhere I pass, selling coffee, appears to be full of people drinking coffee all day long, I presume the cafes can all survive - just. I honestly passed at least half a dozen people on school hill today all carrying mugs of coffee. The population of Lewes has a serious coffee addiction so places are springing up to supply coffee. It could be a worse addiction I suppose.
