Hi Sparky, you ought to go to SpecSavers.
NO stripes walked with Phoenix but we do associate and converse with members of other societies.

This is so stupid, you all think that nothing is better than being in the borough, and these people in the pheonix obviously have made a good society, that dnt listen to any of you!! Bonfire is ment to be having fun, the laughs and the run up to bonfire, so why pick on the pheonix????
They dnt want stripes so they wont be getting a smuggler costume so all societies dnt need to worry about the phoenix stealing there stripe colours!! The costumes are all aloud to be worn when ever they like, they've spent alot of time in making costumes so why cant they wear them, is it because they put all your costumes to shame??
Instead of slagging them off on a social site why dont you all just say it to their faces?? they dnt want to go back into a society that has no respect and are out to cause trouble that is obvious so they wont be asking to go back.
Why slag of Southover?? what have they done, apart from ask a The Pheonix to walk with them on the 5th they is nothing wrong with that, they are a society that has their own opinion like you, but why dont you all take a leaf out of their book and keep your thoughts to yourselves unless you want tell them face to face!!!!
oh and by the way im not a member of any society!!

Sparky 2, firstly, perhaps you need a book on good grammer for xmas.
FYI, they were spoken to and they said that last year it was difficult to produce alternative costumes for that season. So what happens this season, even more new zulu's, using our motto, & still wearing our smuggler jumpers. Can nobody else see that this is their intended way of causing all this animosity. With all due respect, you and many others as outsiders do not know all of the story.

If your not in a society ( which I very much dought ) what the hell has it got to do with you. Nobody doughts their costume making abilities but they should be being used within an established bonfire society , not a free loading walking group who use our activity only as a way of showing said costumes off. The lack of respect they show the society they left by continuing to wear their pioneer costume on mass is a dissgrace and how the Sussex Bonfire Council let them get away with it is beggers belief.

Outsider, I could name names but won't. If you were a member of said group you would know anyway, otherwise butt out. I can assure you we have not obtained pioneer costumes from any other genuine society as we all respect each other.
Note, the word is bought, not brought & have you forgotten where the capital key is or are you too grammatically backward.

Hi Sparky before you get all high and mighty.
brought is to bring and bought is to buy. Perhaps you buy your costumes but others make them and take them with them when they move society.
Best wishes

Hi Renegade Zulu, I see your point, it's the way I read it. I read it as purchased & you read it as taking with them. Having read it again, you're probably right.
Best wishes to you too & a joyful 5th.

Hasn't there always been a certain amount of costume crossover between societies?
I first saw pirates and privateers in Cliffe, walking behind the naval ranks. They are now (I believe) Southover's 2nd pioneers. I've also seen people in 95th rifle regiment costumes in Comical Square, although I think that costume was first worn by Cliffe's tab team. Cavaliers appear in both Cliffe and South Street and there are at least 2 societies with Valencian costumes (Firle being one, can't recall the other). I don't really think it matters that much, tbh.

I think wearing another society's stripes is not on though.

stripes are the unique manner in which all societies nowadays identify the smugglers ranks.
the colours are unique to each society, cliffe black and white, borough blue and white are apparently the oldest however i am not sure when the individual colours were adopted. to wear another societies colours is not the done thing however its a societies privilage to enforce or not its own dress code of those who walk in its ranks. it is a sad day when former members of a society continue to wear the stripes of the society they have left. it is an even sader day when a society allows people to march in its ranks dressed in the colours of another society, but lets face it, thats life and there are those with noble ideals who have less than noble actions.
