Labour has zero chance of winning Lewes. The Lib Dems have a good chance of winning Lewes.
Time to step away from party tribalism and vote for the Lib Dems.
Another Tory government will be disastrous for the country.

Absolutely not. Lib Dem’s would be just as disastrous as labour. Borrow borrow borrow recession recession recession. If you think there’s a lack of housing in lewes now just wait until Lib Dem’s get in.

But why wouldn’t anyone vote for Labour? Their list of seemingly endless promises would surely be nirvana for everyone?

Local2, show me some evidence that Labour have any chance of ousting the Tories in Lewes.

Yep, I'm voting Lib Dems. If Labour were in the position to win the seat in Lewes, I'd probably vote for them, but the priority must be to oust the incumbent tory right-wing brexiter. The only way is to vote Liberal Democrats in the current FPTP system in Lewes. We must try to stop the tories damaging this country through widening inequality, the careless destruction of the Union, as well as harming our neighbours in the European Union.

Unfortunately, I fear it may be a lost cause, and we'll all have to watch this car-crash movie play out, and perhaps hope to bounce back from the wreckage by learning from yet more mistakes by blinded, misplaced nationalism, greed and arrogance (tory mentality and "leadership").

The administrator of the lewes present Facebook site is threatening to take down the post and delete the account of anyone who posts about tactical voting such as we see above. At least it is an improvement on his usual policy of censoring posts he doesn't agree with without any comment.

DfL Show me the evidence where I said labour could oust the torries in lewes? I clearly stated they’re both as disastrous as each other.

I think if Labour have a majority government, they would accomplish a lot, especially if they avoid Brexit altogether.

When people did that in 2010 they got a Tory government propped up by Lib Dems who were enthusiastic enablers of austerity. Jo 'I'm going to be PM' Swinson was a gleeful minister. The Lib Dems are a nasty opportunistic little sect and will go to the oblivion they deserve.

Basil - congratulations on a very British response, a whinge with no proposed solution.
And just as a matter of fact, between then and now the Lib Dems have increased their numbers, so clearly not heading for oblivion.

It's a good, progressive and positive manifesto, but voting Labour in Lewes won't help deliver that where as voting Lib Dems may indirectly support it.

Green Sleeves. Good, progressive and positive maybe, BUT is it realistically deliverable? There must be a downside somewhere - where’s the catch?

Its not a catch, we know there will be an increase in taxation and borrowing to fund what are genuinely innovative programs or much needed investment in public services. The cost or "catch" shouldn't always just be scrutinised by how it can be funded, but the cost for NOT investing in the UK properly and the long term consequences of that.

Successive Tory governments have been making cuts now for almost 10 years....we have just seen slower growth, and an even more divided society due to widening inequality (and an ever increasing debt anyway despite these numerous government saving sprees). There are plenty of industrialised, successful countries that adopt a higher taxation economy, that reinvests back into its public services....our country has plenty of wiggle room to operate similar models.

And even if you don't feel Labours plans are entirely deliverable, even if they deliver 1/4 of what they promised, it is far better than the alternative of the status quo and a never-ending row with the EU.

Aside from the costs (incidentally, labour canvassers have been told to talk Politics not Economics) actually delivering what has been promised will be an enormous task, probably on an unprecedented scale. Take for example house building - where are all the tradesmen going to come from to build the 100,000 houses per year, let alone finding the land, obtaining consent etc. Now multiply that effort across all the other commitments.

It does sound a bit of a contradiction- that voting labour is voting Tory but in view of the fact that voting to leave the EU meant staying in, it's no big surprise

@sleeveless - yes, its ambitious, and some of those targets may not be met, but they will certainly make good progress in many areas of our society that need it just as the previous Labour government did. How many starter homes did the Conservatives commit over their term, and how many did they deliver? The answer to the first question is a very large number, and the second questions answer is......well isn't.

Perhaps we should therefore be cynical of Labours policies, just because the Conservatives have either shown how hard it is to implement these ambitious policies.....or they simply lied, or were too incompetent to deliver.
