A good Lewes hotel?

Hiya, am looking for a nice hotel in Lewes for a family event coming up - I was told about the White Hart in the High Street, but on tripadvisor.com it has got truly AWFUL reviews!! Is it really as bad as everyone has said? What is a better alternative, somewhere not too expensive and a friendly welcome? Ideally near the Castle...

Actually The Crown IS still on TripAdvisor. Google for 'crown lewes tripadvisor' no quotes.
Pelham is your best bet, or Shelley's but they nearly went bankrupt recently.

Pelham House is very expensive, and does not have great reviews either. I don't rate any of the hotels much and would suggest you stay in a B and B or guest house. Tourist info should have lists, you would probably be treated alot better.

STAY WELL CLEAR OF THE WHITE HEART AT ALL COST! It's a health hazard, disgrace to Lewes and makes Faulty Towers look like the Hilton Towers in comparison. Pelham House has got horrid reviews in terms of service and rooms too recently. Perhaps explains why their lounge bar is always deserted? Shelly's has mixed reviews and is ok if you need to have all of the family under one roof but expensive really. I wouldn't take a gamble for that price personally. I found that Millers Bed & Breakfast right next to Shelly's is just the perfect place, half the cost and truly amazing. They only got two rooms but are three doors from the Shelly's. Perhaps you can do a half/half? I'm completely with IMO - As sad and embarassing as it is, there are no good and decent Hotels in this beautiful town which at least reach Travelodge standard or above. But some very nice B&B's.

Thanks everyone...we will not be using the White Hart due to everything I have heard and read about it, I'm looking foward to coming to Lewes again anyway and am sure that I will manage to find a decent hotel...
