Dead Man's Shoes (2004)
A man returns to his Derbyshire home town with his younger brother in tow. It soon becomes clear he has a dark purpose for revisiting his old stamping ground, and the local drug dealers have plenty of reason to be nervous. Psychological thriller from director Shane Meadows, starring Paddy Considine, Toby Kebbell, Gary Stretch and Stuart Wolfenden.
I am a close follower of Shane Meadows work.
He has directed This is England 88 which has been airing on Channel 4 this week.
He is a great director and Dead Mans Shoes is one of his best films.
Wonderful soundtrack too.
Tonight,11,20 Film 4.
Then....At 3.30am also on Film 4 is
Withnail & I (1986)
Two hard-drinking unemployed actors sharing a grotty flat in late 1960s London think they can escape their miserable existence by decamping to a cottage in the Lake District. But finding no respite from their problems, the less self-destructive of the pair comes to realise he has to leave his friend behind. Cult black comedy, starring Richard E Grant, Paul McGann, Richard Griffiths and Ralph Brown.
For the nightbirds amongst us....
