I wonder if you went to a certain chemist where the pharmacist is always out for lunch 1-2pm... I have been caught out there so many times.

I made a similar comment about shops in Lewes not opening on Sundays and got shot down by local businessmen about wanting to have a day off. Seems the idea of weekend employees and/or accepting you have to take a later lunch to accommodate potential customers who only have their lunchtime to use your establishment is completely lost on the "commercially savvy" business owners of Lewes. And then they have the gall to complain about loss of trade and decreasing incomes. Can't have it both ways, fortune favours the bold, in this case means being bold enough to open when your customers want you to.

I will never understand why doctors/dentists/banks etc don't open all weekend then shut on a Monday and Tuesday when nobody is about to go to them.

Yes i have been caught out by the chemists before, is that the only one that isn't open between 1-2pm are all of them ? Lewes doesn't seem to cater for the lunch time quick dash for some items by ppl on their lunch-break lol unless you want lunch and a drink, your hair re-styled, buy new clothers, go food shopping, buy antiques or books arhhh

And lets not forget the banks, they seem to make a point of reducing staffing at lunchtimes. Making customers wait, or inconveniencing them is a far cheaper option.

Yes expat two knew there was something i failed to mention lol you are quite right its hopeless going to the bank at lunchtime as no staff except one cashier so your lunch is spent Q-ing...arhhh see what i mean its hopeless better stay away at lunchtimes and not get anything done

Apparently so Expat. The problem is staff legally have to lunch but no matter what time they choose there is no one extra to cover because of 'staff costs' unfortunately it is a lose lose situation.

Don't forget that the banks were originally there to serve businessmen who could visit anytime during their limited hours. They only reluctantly catered for the proletariat in the latter part of the twentieth century, when cash wages gave way to bank transfers. Just as most of the shops in Lewes now cater for those who don't need to work, and whose main concern is where to park the Chelsea tractor.
