I left my house at 7.00 in Valley Road to go to work and found a ticket on my van issued at 06.45. Are they working 24hrs now ?
I was parked on a single yellow in the cul de sac as i have done for the past four years as there are two few bays available and for insurance reasons it has to be left close to my house.
I AM FUMING !!!!!! They are ruining the town i love.

so you were parked illegally then?

Challange it as unreasonable. It might be that an annoyed neighbour drew it to their attention. While the letter of the law might mean you are in the wrong (I don't know exactly what single yellow restrictions are) that does not necessarily mean it is fair. We have got to wonder why a traffic warden would be gainfully employed at that time in the morning, and how many tickets they issue before 8am!

Can't you appeal against this, if it's a single yellow and outside of the restricted hours?

Parking on a single yellow is not illegal outside restricted hours. It used to be a double but was erased to a single line, not very well but is obvious it has been changed.
My next point is how easy mistakes can be made on the wardens part just as motorists can park in a residents park with a machine ticket without realising-but thats just too bad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beth, it's NOT illegal to park on a single yellow line at that time of the morning or on Sundays. Enforcement hours vary, but it's usually legal between 6pm-8am.

Regardless of the legality you have to ask just how serious the traffic congestion is in a cul-de-sac at 06.45, and just how many man-hours of patrols the parking scheme should pay for.

in a cul-de-sac?, so was it in the turning circle at the end of the road? that would cause congestion and a problem for others, were you bumped up on the kerb? either way there must have been a reason for them to put the ticket on as they just don't do it for the fun.

It depends how you were parked, if you were causing an obstruction for example parked on a corner or parked partly on the pavement they will rightly fine you regardless of the time.

If you read any of the parking signs that are ALL over Lewes, you will see that the parking tickets start at 8.00 a.m. until 6.p.m. My other half saw two traffic wardens booking a van outside Gorringes the other morning at 6.15 a.m. Why is this? IT IS PLAINLY ON ALL THE SIGNS. How does this work? x

enforcement on d-y-l = 24 hrs a day 7 days a week
s-y-l = 0800 to 18.00 mon to fri and in some areas mon-sat
hope that helps if you park in a turning circle should be d-y-l

I spoke to Mr Crawford at ESCC today and fair play he admitted it was a mistake. It does seem though that wardens are out before 8.00 presumably in cars to maximise potential tickets
In my street there are not enough bays for cars so its pot luck if you get a space. Not parking in my street invalidates my insurance, surely you should only provide permits for the number of bays.

What was his explaination for wardens out at 6.45, an hour and a quarter before they can do anything? Why are we paying for such a rubbish, and pressumably illegal service?

Apparently wardens can issue tickets in the middle of the night if you are parked on double yellows or on the pavement in zones or not(Nice overtime). Watch out Southover High Sreet-YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!!!!!!!!!!

Haven't ESCC admitted that the scheme is flawed and that they did not consult the public properly in the first place?

So, to enable traffic to flow all night, we are to believe that it is commercially viable for traffic wardens to go around looking for illegally parked cars that cause non existant traffic problems. Hmm. I am no Alan Sugar, but this seems to me to be a flawed money making scheme, and I would be interested to know how many tickets are issued, and how this meets with the stated aims of the scheme, which is to improve parking availibilty, and ensure free traffic flow. Perjhaps someone should explain to them that single yellow lines between 6pm and 8am are legal, so that they can be paid at a time when they might be able to do something more effective. This scheme is increasingly more ridiculous every day,
