Nominated for Best Foreign Language Feature at the 2019 Academy Awards and BAFTAs

Nadine Labaki’s hectic and heartbreaking film borrows its name from an ancient city condemned to hell by Jesus. The word has become a synonym for chaos and the modern Beirut of the film is a place without peace, mercy or order. A Beirut street kid runs away from his abusive home. He is befriended by an Ethiopian woman and minds her baby while she works illegally. When he has to head back to the streets, taking the baby with him, he is confronted by some terrible choices.
