I've got it and it works fine. Other people have said the same. But awful trouble having it put in - Virgin managed to cock up the change from dial-up to broadband and left us without any internet connection for over a week. We've made a complaint, which they are studiously ignoring. But - fingers crossed - since we've had it things have been fine.

If you like ignorant customer service, ultra slow 8MB broadband, don't mind calling the police when their engineer racially abuses you, don't mind your details being forwarded to a debt collector despite all bills paid, have to ask them three times to close your account (outside contract period!) and still like to receive a payment demand for 42p service charge six month after service ceased I FULLY RECOMMEND VIRGIN MEDIA!! Otherwise go with O2, best ISP ever (to date, non-cable) and I have been with a lot.

THEINTREPIDFOX - of course, I may be back here to say that Virgin did not deal with my complaint and I've had to go to the regulator.
Lordlandport: we still get it through the phone line. We don't get TV with it.

I agree Webby. After a slightly shaky start I now have been with Talk Talk for around 20 months.I pay £10.50 line rental (Talk Talk takes over the phone line) and 5.65 a month for a phone package which includes free evening and weekend calls (+ free international calls 24/7) And the broadband is 'free' on top.I'm happy with it.My bills are usually around 20 a month.
My brother has Virgin,he lives in Brighton.I thought Virgin was only available by cable...He is happy with Virgin. He gets a free sim card too in his package...And gets his telly channels through Virgin too.I did ring and enquire about Virgin and was told it wasn't available in Lewes yet.Maybe things have changed.Got my trusty digi-box that gives me a really good choice of channels.Sorted!!

Namesco has fairly good CS but I would not recommend them althoug I do earn comission (Says it all) if I do. I use them for domain registrations though. All their other services such as hosting are pants. Same for Eclipse. But these two are still better than Be, BT, TalkTalk, Sky. You get what you pay for so if you spend a fiver a month don't expect a UK call centre, 0800 number and great service.

Although I had hick-ups with my O2 phone contract, I have dealt with five O2 residential activations within the last two months. It went smooth in every case, activated straight away (even before activation date, no longer than 5 days wait max) and I'm really impressed about their competent (UK) customer service. solid reliable 15MB down and 1.5MB up over normal phone line.

I use the post office. Easiest trouble free set up ever, Free wireless modem, fast connections, free calls even to mobiles ( even mobiles abroad would you believe!!) at weekends and all for £24 a month including line rental. Thats right, no more BT line rental on top! For me it works out cheaper than BT without the broadband. Very satisfied.

I'd stronlgly recommend Be Unlimited. I get 22MB broadband actual line speed (@600 m from exchange apparently), uncapped, £18 a month. They are owned by 02 but despite this they have been OK. Don't know about line rental I just get it on my regular BT line.

How about BE Unlimited's Romanian based call centre Turnip? They are a cheap substandard outlet of O2 and have you read their small print? Better to go with O2 directly, which uses the BE Infrastructure, but doesn't drive you insane.

No, I see it as the other way round in fact. Be are a firm that was bought up by o2 because 02/telefonicaUK didn't have the knowhow to deliver LLU broadband. I've had to call the romanians from time to time: despite the accent they know their stuff (I work in IT); I don't care where I call as long as they can help me. I find dealing with 02 (I have mobile and broadband with them elsewhere) a complete pain on the other hand, only British Gas & Virgin Trains are worse.

Clever move by O2 and a blessing for mankind. It took the Romanians at Be three days to process my order and never completed. I'm talking of acknowledging the order, not activating broadband. The one's I talked to had no clue and I work in IT. Called O2 and they processed my order immediately, activated four days later! Record Speed. Only slight annoying thing is port 25 closure on the BE/O2 network. But many ISPs do it nowadays.

I'm with Eclipse and although they're not the cheapest I can't fault their service. Their call centre is in Exeter and on the rare occasisons I've had to call them the staff have been unfailingly pleasant, polite, helpful, efficient and charming.
Given that they've been dealing with someone in an advanced state of stress and for whom any sort of tech speak is a foreign language, that's quite some achievement.
On one occasion, I had a problem that was caused by my ancient broadband modem not being up to the new higher speeds. They were so apologetic about the fact they omitted to ask me what modem I was using until they'd been trying to sort it out for 24 hours, they cancelled my charges that month by way of recompense.

I can only confirm what ACT wrote. I sent them an Email saying that I was sad to leave (I had to) but to keep up the good work and that it has been refreshing to be with such a good company. Their online account system is great too. They now do speeds up to 24MB but watch out for their usage restrictions. Monthly contract and cheaper calls offer are a bonus though if you don't want to lock yourself in for a year.

SCSL in Hove is good too. Do BT line installation for less than BT, offer call bundle and very fast low contention Broadband. Friendly personal swift service but no 24hr and weekend support. You don't need to be a business to use them. www.scsl.co.uk

I've used the same cable network for years and years. It's amazing how many owners it's had though. When I joined with them it was Cable & Wireless then became Nynex (or was that the other way around?) then NTL, then finally Virgin.
I've always had phone, TV and broadband via their own cable network rather than a phone line though. I've always been happy with the very reliable broadband with very, very few outages over the last 8 to 10 years.
TV service has always been a bit flaky though but I think that's probably down to the poor pace TV boxes that crash a lot rather than the digital TV feed itself. I guess I should get an upgraded box sometime.
