hi im a college student and joining lewes college in September. However im also looking to lodge in lewes but have two horses and want to put them on a livery yard near Lewes but with access to the downs. Apparently there is a "Barns Stables" on de mont fort road and i have noticed there is direct access up onto the gallops. However i was wondering how long this would take me on a bike, and if anybody new if the stables took liverys, if it was infact a stables anymore and if so what it was like? I would really be so greatful for any genuine posts, as im really stuck! P.s do you know if there is a bicycle route or bus tht runs from town centre - demontfort! sorry i dont want much do i ! many thanks, Sarah x

I don't think Barns Stables is stables any more. The only stables I know are the Hamsey Riding School ones on the Brighton Road and I wouldn't know if they take other peoples horses. The 28/29 buses to Brighton are every 15 minutes from the town centre and go right past the place. Give them a ring. I'm sure they will know someone who can help if they can't. My daughter used to go there. Very friendly people.

As Rookie says, all the 'Stables ' in the town center have all long gone. All desirable house now I'm afraid. Not sure either if Hamsey does DIY livery. Lower Stoneham on the Uckfield road does (1 mile from town) but I've heard it's quite expensive. Bevenbridge on the Chailey does (5 miles) don't know fees though. There is also a small one at Swanborough (2 miles). Bird in Eye farm at Uckfield maybe too far for you (7miles), they charge in the region of £80 per month summer, £130 winter. (DIY).

Thanks "Tooth fairy" thats really helpful. I'll check out the one in Swanborough. Its funny you say that actually, im at Bird-in eye now! Iv only got till Febuary and then i can start learning to drive. At the moment i live on my bike and cycle from uckfield-lewes and back most weekends! Atleast its keeping my fit! Id probably cycle to the yard each day....thanks again.

Hi
I'm looking for livery as well. Bradfords are full, as is Vixengrove. What is Bird-in-Eye like? What is the one at Swanborough called? We're moving back down to the SE after a spell in Aberdeenshire. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheryl - Ow thats a shame Bradfords is a lovely, relaxed yard, i used to keep my horses there about 6 years ago! We the were lucky enough to have them at home but whe my parents split my mum moved to uckfield so we moved them to Birdin-eye. Its not bad actually, Jo (the owner) takes part livery and DIY. Only problem is there's a few field out the back and other than that you have to ride out for 30 minutes to reach really good fields. Still im always off for hours exploring...there's a really nice outdoor sand school with rubber surfacing too. The only down side is there can be a bit of mild bitching going on, but i just tend to keep out of it and have never had any troubles myself. I dont know if you have heard of Chrissie Well's farm near isfield/bentley area or if not Jake Tarrants yard between Bentley Wildfowl and Halland? Hope this helps xx

Hello
we are in the process of buying a house (exchanging next week) that will have 3 stables and paddock (3 acre) in Iford, about 1 mile from Lewes and straight up onto the Downs. The stables are not being used at the moment and we will want to rent them. It will be DIY and whatever the market rate is. If you are interested drop me a note.
All the best

Joella I know it was nearly a year ago but is there any chance your stables are still available?
