Bit of a hike, but I think the best in the area is Carat's cafe in Shoreham Harbour. Also Roedean cafe by the golf course. Closer to home, that little place by the bottleneck (name escapes me) is pretty good.

The place in the botleneck used to be called Checkers, I think it's called the Kasbah or something now. Either way, it does indeed do a decent fry-up. I think the best I've had in the wider area was at the Top Ten Cafe at the top of St James' Street in Brighton. Not sure if it's even still there now mind you, businesses there don't tend to last long.

I don't tend to eat breakfast out in Lewes, but A pretty good plateful at reasonable cost can be obtained at Macs cafe in Arundel Road Brighton, just opposite Lidl.
Also not bad is the Wetherspoon's in the marina/

I like Eddie's. Proper builders' caff with no pretensions, and a damn fine plateful.
Macs in Brighton is good though.

I went to that Checkers place once and asked for a fry-up, and was dismissed by the owner/manager telling me, "no, I'm not heating up the oil for one portion of chips". I'm pretty sure it was the owner/manager, I'd often see him in Tesco's buying stacks and stacks of Value range beans, eggs & bread. The one on the left half way up Elm St in Brighton was our favourite.
