Hi everyone
We're moving to Lewes in the new year and I am seeking advice for child care in Lewes. My Baby will be 8 months when I return to work. My husband and I are both going to work and we are looking for full time care with support for early starts and late finishes we might have on occasion.
Does anyone have any recommendations? We're likely to live in central Lewes so something convenient for that would be fab.
Thanks!

Your best bet would be a childminder - ring Ellen Hyam on 01273 477496 as she knows which ones are available . Some of the nurseries are popular but less flexible - it depends what sort of environment you think will best suit your little . Look at several different options before you decided . Tinies Agency in Brighton can advise you on employing a nanny . Good luck !

Good advice above. My experience of Busy Bees was really positive and they have a great baby room but they are open usual nursery hours of 8am-6pm. If you're working locally then childminder would be a good option and you can find who is available via childcare.co.uk . However, if your commute is in to London then I think a nanny is probably the only option. You'll find that the Brighton nanny agencies will be very interested in your role if it's 4 or 5 days per week, less so for part-time hours. Hope that helps and good luck with your move and search!

Before I came down and moved to Lewes, the company that was most efficient and worked best for us and might be able to find something for you in Brighton too was Holland Park Tuition and Education Consultants. Have you got your baby's name down yet? You must do that. My little boy would have had no chance whatsoever if we hadn't started early. In 2014 he sailed through his 4+ tests and was recommended to the pre-prep of our choice where lots of boys go on to St Pauls and Oxford. We were very satisfied with the service.

Jennifer , get back under your bridge.
You know perfectly well that if you mention Holland Park, public/ prep schools ,testing for 4 year olds your going to get a strong reaction. It's too obvious though!
I would expect a little more sophistication from a 'Southover mum'

Don't move here. You'll only want to change the place. The pavements aren't wide enough for modern prams. Go somewhere else. Please. No, really, please.

I am not judgemental but I find it odd to have a child then move house to somewhere so expensive you both have to work full time and you won't see the child. Why not move somewhere cheaper where you can enjoy the child and where you live all week, not just at weekends? Your child will have a happier time I'm sure too. I am curious to know. Good luck whatever you choose though.

Sounds like you need a full time live in nanny. Especially if you both commute - southern trains are a nightmare.

Thanks so much for the helpful responses. I was really excited to be moving to Lewes - it seems such a great town. The judgemental comments in this board makes me reconsider. I'm hoping it is the thoughts of a few only. Frankly I don't think anyone has any right to tell anyone else how they should live. Mummyhood is certainly tricky enough without a total stranger (Gerty) feeling able to comment.

Take no notice of this forum - it's the most bizarre place on the net. In real life the people are as not unfriendly as anywhere. But do take into account the dire lack of parking and it's cost, and the dire state of the rail network and it's cost. Also the general lack of shops other than artisan bakeries etc.As a person whose ancestors came to Sussex in 1900, I wouldn't bother with Lewes. But it's an interesting place to visit.Kind regards, and best wishes for you and you family.
