I heard this morning that McDonalds might be taking over Guidos. Can this possibly be true?

There were rumours going round a few years ago that a McD's was going to be built where the bike/car shop is now behind the Volley.
I think there's a place for it...why not and it'll be a damn site cheaper than the £14.99 that Bills is charging for sunday lunch
Bring it on

McDonalds = acid in the back of my throat!
Type "calendriermcdo" into google and see why this disgusting company is not required in Lewes.

It would be such a shame if a Mc D opened up in Lewes. Lewes is a town of individuality and should remain that way. Also, what does everyone think about all of these Pizza Pasta chain restaurants in Lewes. Wouldn't it be nice to have a different choice of food when considering eating out?

You have every choice of food....kebabs x 2, indian x 5, fish and chips x 2, chinese x 3, italian x 4, Thai x 1 plus a few others. What else do you want ?
If Lewes is a town of individuality, why have we got a WHSmiths, New look, McKays, Dixons, Superdrug etc....all high street chains.
There is a market for McD's....it's not quite my choice but if people want to eat there, it's up to them.

Unfortunately none of us will have a choice when it comes to the complimentary legacy that this type of place brings with it............................................................the litter!

Have you walked through Lewes high street on a saturday evening Taff....the amount of crap blowing around and overflowing bins is disgusting....yet no one seems to bat an eyelid at it.
I agree it will bring more litter but it'll be in comparison to the charcoal grill at the top.

MacDonalds - I do hope not. If the company are researching the viability of one of their vomi parlours in Lewes, I wonder if they have considered sufficient spaces for customers to tie up their staffies?
Mind you, I wouldn't say no to an Uncle Sam's burger!

I remember years ago there was an Uncle Sams in West Street in Brighton. They were the best...They still have a shop, tucked away in a side street, and still taste good.No to KFC,they're not chicken friendly. After watching Jamie Oliver tonight,I am more put off than ever from buying cheap chicken...Or eating it as fast food.
I'm voting for a Burger King.Aberdeen Angus beef in their burgers. And they taste infinately better than Maccy D's.

Dear Zola,
Good news - there are still several branches of Uncle Sam's relatively nearby.
The one I go to most is located on the parade of shops at Woodingdean. There is another at Hollingdean and one near Eastbourne hospital.
Double chilli with cheese usually does the trick!

I can imagine a takeaway establishment in Lewes would have to go through some rather stringent planning...Is there a way we can find out what is being planned? Be nice if we could have a say in it...I definately do not want Maccy D's.They really do taste awful...

So just because YOU don't like McD's Zola (and neither do i really), you don't want anyone else to "enjoy" it either.
It's a shame we don't have the same response when another antique shop or hairdressers opens in the town

The Uncle Sams tucked up the side street near Montpelier place is the original one. All the others came afterward. For those of us old enough to gone there you will remember they used to flame cook the burgers right in front of you. Great they are too.
Its a shame Guidos failed as they offered alternatives to the
other Lewes restaurants. Only ate there the once mind and was not over impressed.

Yeah Uncle Sams were the best. We have just been unfortunate enough to get a Burger King installed. Yuk! Revolting in my opinion.

Have to agree that McDo would not be the End of the World, it would add choice and least in McDo you don't get ripped off, the food's hot, service good & it's child friendly even though not diet-friendly. They might even do a coffee for less than £2. As with Tescos, it might keep people in the town that might otherwise go elsewhere. I feel sorry for the people living at the top of Keere Street though.

I'm not a big fan of McD's myself - but I see no reason to consider restricting other people's choices. If there is no need for a McD in Lewes then it will fail - if on the other hand there are hundreds (or thousands) of people who would like to buy from them (more likely) then it will succeed.
Having said I don't particularly like them I do use them from time to time when I am out working all day as they are convenient - and that is the top and bottom of the argument - convenience.
It would be great if more 'ordinary' people have a fair representation in Lewes with places to eat etc.
