walked past Lewesiana Florist and Tearoom on High St en route to work today and it was closed down! Seemed empty, but there was a new chap there setting up Xmassy stuff, so seems that a Christmas /discount pop up shop there in its place for 6 weeks until lease ends. At least that will save me from the hordes and some Christmas decorations that dont cost as much as a parking ticket!!! Sure the other neighbouring businesses pleased to see it not be an empty shop like so many others on the declining upper High St. Tinsel at the ready, and I can indulge my childrens gaudy festive tastes. Wish there were more pop ups and less greedy Lewes landlords

Lewesiana would still be here had not the canny corporates pushed up rents. A temporary tinsel shop is not what we need. You can't blame Lewes landlords - blame instead the system we currently live under.
We're being briskly exiled from our own streets and towns. What I wonder will replace 'Lewesiana' (even the name has portent) after the temporary tinsel thrill? The centre of Lewes is a conservation area; perhaps we should be
pushing for more than just 'facadism'. The notion of conservation has in my opinion become a reductionist neocon joke. Just what are we conserving - Pretty premises for Mint Velvet?

Personally I cannot wait for the redvelopment of Phoenix. Hopefully with a few High Street names to get Lewes in to modern times. Maybe a starbucks, and Odeon/Cineworld (proper cinemas not some duke of yorks type thing) a few restaurants, maybe a Strada or even a Las Iguanas if the people of Lewes could cope. Lovely BRING IT ON
