Is it just me or are the streets of Lewes very very dark ? Lots of street lights seem to be out in various parts of town, or completelyt non existent. Two examples - corner of the avenue and offham road, corner of grange rd by western road school entrance.
And do the leaves in Lewes ever get swept up or are they just allowed to compost into a complete slimy mulch on the pavements ? This is particularly bad at bottom of Keere st and again on corner of The Avenue and Offham Road. The words 'Accident waiting to happen' spring to mind. As do 'Break a leg' Is this some sort of weird council policy ? (county, district or town...whoever) .

I'm sure you're right Brixtonbelle. Council policy is to take in as much as possible through council tax in order to keep offices warm and senior managers comfortable. People who actually do the work and the council tax payers can take a running jump.

I expect some highly paid manager has undertaken a cost-benefit analysis and concluded that it's cheaper to fork out a few grand now and again to those who injure themselves and have enough evidence to make a claim than it is to do something about the state of the streets.
The lights on the steps between Castle Ditch Lane and the car park haven't worked for over a year. I reported them in the autumn of 2008, not long after the the clocks went back.

I like The Grange Gardens, and the way the teashop has the most odd mixture of china from the charity shops
