Does anyone know if there was actually any salt on the roads? or was it just too bad for it to work? by 11 oclock last night the A27 was an ice skating rink with no lanes. Glad I got home early enough.

as untrustworthy as they often are, I think its East Sussex that do the gritting

East Sussex are responsible for most roads, the Highways Agency does the A27. Pavements are best left untouched, because if a householder attempts to clear them, they are liable if anyone then falls and gets hurt!

A colleague informed me this morning that the A272 had been gritted between Scaynes Hill and Chailey. I don't know how much of that is in East Sussex though.
There certainly wasn't any evidence of gritting earlier in the week, despite some very icy mornings.

Apparently ESCC have said that Lewes didn't need gritting as it wasn't busy enough. I despair. We are busy enough to earn money and pay tax. aaarrgghhh.........

Busy enough to have the county and district councils, police HQ, ambulance trust and PCT all based here! And we pay the same precept to the county regardless of how "busy" we are.
Or is this just another example of the Tory county not giving the liberal-voting town and district anything it wants, while making sure we get parking schemes and incinerators we don't bloody want?
Can we declare UDI?

If they gritted, why didn't it work? Last night the whole town centre was a snowy skid pan. Very dangerous, and various cars could get up the hills. I noticed some grt this morning, but a neighbour had put that out.
