What a great turn out and what a marvellous event. Lewes came alive yesterday and our biggest assett The Ouse was the star. Wake up council the Ouse is for boating so lets spend some money on shoring up the banks and making the Ouse a bigger attraction for tourists and locals than it is now. All you hear from the council is we must protect the wildlife and its not pleasing to the eye etc. Its a river for goodness sake and water and boats go together. Lets have some more events like this. Brilliant .

Feeling very ancient after over 4 hours on a raft yesterday. Great fun and a wonderful turnout. I still smell of rancid yoghurt and bean soup poured on us at Newhaven.
Sceptic, which Council are you referring to regarding the river? The Environment Agency, I believe, is also involved with banks etc..

What a great day. So many people turned out for a glorious afternoon in the sun.
Whoever was responsible for the revamping and organisation of this event (which was very slowly dying) take a very well deserved bow.

Hi Merlin, I believe you know who I mean, Lewes council, environment agency, in fact anyone involved in the upkeep and maintenance of the River Ouse. Also the derelict buildings on the opposite bank need sorting out soon. Anyway well done Merlin after enduring 4 hours on the raft, you guys made our day. Thankyou.

Much of the organising was done by Lewes Rowing Club among many others. Tescos also contributed a lot. Superb event.

Correct me if I am wrong but the Ouse is the responsibility of the Environment Agency with land owners being in part responsible for the their bank. So LDC for the railway land for example. However the broader issue of the access and use of the river is mostly to do with ESCC, LDC and SDNP setting the planning strategy and of course private and public owners doing something. It is something that I am sure will be included in the neighbourhood plan.

Fantastic turnout and excellent event, typical of the best of Lewes. Derelict riverside does indeed need sorting - just hope it can be sensitively done rather than bulldozed into a clone town. Rafts need to be built somewhere!

The Raft race was as always organised by Lewes Round Table . The remainder of the events on the river were organised by Lewes Rowing Club. The whole set up on Malling Recreational ground was a joint effort between both . Great Day out . Well done to all involved

Fantastic event but I don't think it's fair that a catamaran is allowed to win it I think there should be 2 categories next year, pre-built hulls and non pre-built hulls

Aw Steve, Cliffe were a bunch of whinging bad losers. Complaining to the organisers because Borough used canoes as a hull. It was a bit of fun, get over it.

I heard that Cliffe's argument was that a canoe isn't a man made object. Correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't think a 45 gallon oil drum was either.

I wasn't talking about Borough I was talking about the Ringmer Young Farmers roofed catamaran, hardly in the spirit of a raft race is it.

Point taken Steve. Perhaps the organisers will revamp the rules for next year but all in all it was a fantastic event for the town this year so credit to all those involved.
