Lets have some positive reviews for the independant shops/eateries of Lewes, I'll kick off with the ever popular Shanaz, the best Indian food around, great service and staff!

you can only be positive about things that warrant it - I agree 100% with comments on Shanaz an excellent Indian in all ways - Bright Ideas is another 100%er - but as for many of Lewes' other establishments - many of which are charity shops so somewhat exempt from comparitive review - £40 for a candle or a ball of string...
you cannot make sh1t smell of roses however hard you try

I've never done a Shanaz(not a proper local then) but never heard a bad review yet. You know, I reckon the Chargrill kebab place right in centre of town does about the best meal you could wish for. A huge Chicken kebab, biting chilli sauce, and, cooked in front of your eyes. They dont do that in the Savoy Grill, gospel. Before you smirk, sober, it tastes just as fine.
I miss Si, the place that also did proper Italian, in a big restaurant. Other than that, Bills is good, snack food only, and timing is all important though. Sandwiches at The Runaway are "Famous Five'tastic". Got a free lunch at Pelham Hotel in the new year. Will keep you posted.
