Nearly every day you read in the paper or on the news that there is unrest somewhere in the world and you think, Why cant different countries settle their differences and have peace, and yet when you read this Forum and see how the different bonfire societies bicker you can understand why. The webmaster in his wisdom has already removed two threads so come on Lads and Lassies hold out your olive branches and enjoy the fifth. Put the past behind you and move on.

In my last post to this increasingly more sad and bitter forum I fully agree with Teacher and DFL - and not just the bonfire threads!

I think there's always place for a good bit of argy-bargy. But what strikes me about the bonfire threads is how seriously some of the posters take themselves and their one-night-a-year spectacle. It's a great spectacle and very enjoyable for all who take part and all who just watch. But it is only a spectacle.

Bonfire has got out of hand. There are more Lewisians that think it is a nuisance than there are those that enjoy it.

the only bit that is out of hand is the crowd. So much work goes into putting on this show done for nothing other than giving pleasure to other people it sickens me when others go on and on about it in the negative. Would you say the same thing about the Notting hill carnival?(of course not, that would be racist) It is about community.people on this forum do spoil the night with their bickering but pull it together, make it rich, enjoy our community treat.
personally my back aches from leaning over morter tubes tonight, but tomorrow hundreds of people with marvel at the magic...that's what it's about, what looks like effortless beauty.

No we don't. You can put all the effort into it you like but if it means rookies everywhere before and after the event then you can take a flying.
