Not sure about lewes.Having lived away for a long time i have of late being popping into lewes for a wander and to get a portion of chips from south street chippy( best ones i have ever tasted).Anyway back to not sure about lewes.Yes they have been hard at work on the cliffe high street but to me it looks better, but what is the point of it there is no new shops and not really anything of interest.Whenever i visit i hardley ever see anyone from days of old only people who look as if they are lost and thinking what's this place all about.Lewes is a very pretty town and no you don't need big stores but beleive me its lacking somthing.Oh and the little precient outside whsmiths is often occupied by a group of loudmouth chav girls which really lets that bit down.Nope don't think i will be moving back to my birth place. There is only 2 places worth living in this country and thats Brighton and London.

Ex lewes girl, you should make an appointment to see your GP. Do policemen all seem much younger? Have you grown out of leaving all your clothes on the floor? It seems that as an ex-teenager you are now irritated by loud mouthed chavs and you are clearly suffering from the aging process. Your GP can't cure this condition. But he/she can reassure you that it is entirely normal to be a grumpy older person and suggest you do something really retro and have a pint of Harvey's to calm you down. But, don't blame it on the Town.

I love Lewes but must admit that I am rather drawn to the fishing ports in the West Country. Besides Hastings, there are few proper fishing communities in Sussex.

I rather like Falmouth. Slightly seedy, as befits a proper port with real ships, big enough to have decent shops (including an excellent independent bookshop) but small enough to be friendly and have loads of character, and nice pubs. The countryside inland from there is nice too.
Dorset is also blessed with lots of nice towns - Dorchester, Sherborne, Bridport and Lyme Regis, to name but 4.
