Ive been complaining to the Town Council for years about the state of Malling St / Hill and Ive never had the courtesy of a reply - my latest message to them was last week pointing out how crap the place looked considering a big event is on the way - funny how they find the staff / money to do it now!

Possibly because it is not the responsibility of the Town Council.

I'm really sorry jamie but your literacy makes me despair. It is the same sort of ill-education that makes car drivers throw litter out of their windows and then their defence is that someone is paid to pick up the rubbish, so what's the problem? I think I'm becoming my parents!

Normally, Pedant just annoys me due to his / her unbelievably superior tone, however Jamie, a full stop at the very least would be nice, no punctuation whatsoever, still it does not make you a bad person.
Normally Pedant rules of grammar require we capitalise the first letter when writing people's names.
I am sure as someone who dispenses with advice one can take it also?

Stop it, Padster, too funny. No commas in second or third paragraph, and what do you mean by "dispenses with advice" ? !!!

Dear Brixtonbelle
dispenses
3rd person singular present of dis-pense (Verb)
1.Distribute or provide (a service or information) to a number of people.
2.(of a machine) Supply (a product or cash).
I mean in relation to number 1, dispenses with opinion / advice re grammar
I must admit my use of commas is unconstrained ! Importantly I do not profess to know all ....Regards BB.

I think common usage would phrase it without the 'with'. IE To dispense advice. But I too, do not profess to know it all and maybe I misunderstood your meaning !!!

Without the "with" , it does not sound or read well; but we are now in danger of hijacking this thread, stand down BB as will I , but your advice is informative and welcome, accepted with thanks.
