I have posted a couple of items recently having seen trains full and standing at Lewes.
I complained to Southern on several occasions and a recent reply full of apologies but states being examined for the May 2020 timetable.
Looked at my records :
April 2018 between 05 00 and 10 30 : 6650 seats available on trains from Lewes towards London.
September 2019 same period : 5586 seats provided
So in the May 2018 changes Southern reduced the seat availability by 1064 seats.
This is made worse there only being 1 Seaford Line attachment and all 4 trains after 08 45 being reduced from 8 coaches to 4 coaches

BN26 you are not wrong! On another theme, last year I starting counting cancellations at stations en route and regularly passed on the info to Maria Caulfield because, wait for it - Southern are not required to report such info to the DfT. What I find frustrating is the fact that that DfT are not monitoring the contract.

I have received a response from Maria Caulfield following representations to Southern about the loading of trains Lewes to London. Southern offer no immediate solution but say they are looking at the issue for the May 2020 timetable.
We can't turn the clock back but maybe it will be better for Summer 2020 movements.
To get changes it is necessary to complain - supported with facts and suggestions for improvement.
I have suggested they look at the type 700 (Thameslink) availability for peak trains releasing type 377 for off peak services on the Victoria route and not sure if this will be their solution. There is no new build rolling stock.

My advice for off peak is to get off at Haywards Heath and get on one of the Thameslinks which are almost all 12 carriages and off peak have loads of seats. You usually only have to wait 3 minutes or so. Blackfriars has District/Circle connections, St Panrcas has Victoria Line, London Bridge has Northern/Jubilee. All the Victorias coming through Haywards Heath are packed, pretty much all the time.

Thanks ar10642 - Did that last week and went to Blackfriars then Underground.
Can't understand why 4 contributors dislike your sensible suggestion.
