Have been wondering which pubs in Lewes are the oldest. I had a pleasantly delightful drink in the John Harvey Tavern recently but it strikes me that despite it being such an iconic and desirable pub, it is not that old. My son also often frequents the Dorset as it seemed to have had a bit of a popular spell recently - it has not always been the Dorset I have come to believe. Can anyone shed light on the history of Lewes watering holes?

The Dorset Arms was known as the Manxman for a few years. Before that it was called....the Dorset Arms!
There is a book called the Inns of Lewes Past and Present. Well worth a read if you can find a copy.
