Then once I was on the train, I'd wait for the old chap to come around with the drinks trolley - a service that Southern decided to end, in spite of its popularity. In the age of smartphones and free papers, perhaps the newsagents wouldn't have survived even if it had remained in the station, but I can't help feeling that Southern are largely to blame. It's very sad that so many things are tangibly worse than they were 10 years ago.
