Smells as if dung is being burnt.
Is the Newhaven inSINerator (sic) having a dummy run?

No, incinerator all quiet at the moment, just you Lewes residents emanating the usual hot air over a traditional countryside odour.
maybe a move to London will help those that prefer the smell of diesel fumes over a natural rural seasonal smell...

It's definitely not 'traditional countryside odour'. I've lived in the countryside all my life and 'normal' manure does not smell like that. FACT.

The reason for the disgusting smell is that they are using human solids ,... I gather it is cheap and clearly the farmer in question doesn`t care how much he makes everyone else's life a misery so long as he can line his pockets , the selfish sod .
I think the council should at least be looking into this and corresponding with the guilty party with a view to the future . I for one to not want a biblical plague once a year
Imagine if some factory were doing this there would be outrage , farmers always think the rules don`t apply to them for some reason.

It must be treated. Otherwise you'd have human poo washing of the earth into the Ouse... which provides our drinking water.

Traditional countywide smells evolve over time, we used to smell the stubble burning, be smoked out by the fires, then the agrochemical fertilisers and pesticide smells, now we have treated humanure, perfectly safe to use, just a different smell.
Do we prefer industrial chemicals or a useful byproduct that is being recycled?
It is treated for all bugs, so is safe if a little smelly.

Yo Dudes,
just had it confirmed from 'horses mouth' that the smell [which appears to have evaporated....thank god!!] is actually PIG POO......and it appears that the contractors [on behalf of Houndean Farm] who are distributing the stuff over the fields, are actually within their legal rights to do so.
Deep joy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
