i invite all interested parties to comment (registration required) on this SDNP/20/01837/FUL . a planning application to prevent all access to the green wall pathway by putting up gates....at both ends ! should we become a gated community? what about the disabled? or the parent with a large pushchair and shopping? should they have to walk another 50meters and negotiate several high curbs? and what about the other residents on the other side? justsayin

Have you read the documents that are part of the application? They detail the issues the residents have with ASB etc. The police and the district council support it. And there's no extra distance of any consequence involved - you'd go left up Little East St to Waterloo Place then along to join Wellington St, rather than up Green Wall and then left onto Wellington Place. I was a bit taken aback when I first read it, but it seems an effective solution to the problem.

It's a public right of way, and potentially a fire escape. There are properties there that require deliveries to be made. Rather than solving the problem by creating an enclave, sorry gated community which of course adds value when you describe a property for sale!, wouldn't it be an idea if we had a competent police force that were visible in a town the size of Lewes and actually carried out their role. Next we'll have everyone living in Cranedown demanding that Rugby fans whisper their encouragement every Saturday afternoon and residents of Toronto Terrace and Talbot Terrace demanding that trains have silencing rubber tyre fitted. Am I fed up with snowflakes demanding everything be done for them? You work it out.
