As when considering new double glazing, when hiring a solicitor get more than one quote, and check what is available online. NEVER use the solicitor recommended by the seller's estate agent. For my last Lewes purchase I used a Lancashire-based legal chain who allocated the work to a clerk based in Southport. She was busy, but responsive, and the cost was half the best local (Brighton) quote. Everything seemed to go well, and I have someone with insurance to sue should anything devastating turn up in the future.
