i would like to know what the thoughts of the chamber of commerce are on the new parking regs. as we now have a bright new carpet store in town with free easy parking . also what if anything has the chamber done about the much promised 100 spaces that were due to come back to the town after the 6 month review oh yes that was 6 months ago mors B.S. form the L.D.C.

I would say that any carpet shop trading in the town centre will be struggling to compete with the out of town store.
Still... I guess it will soon be an opportunity for yet another charity shop to open in a prime position.
OK I now live in Seaford but the truth is that excluding the out of town sites the parking in Lewes is v poor. Park at your peril... sadly the high street shops just aren't worth the effort. Guess they must all be making enough money out of the locals without us visitors cash.

ps. LDC & ESCC tend to be detached from reality. They should get out of their offices a bit more.

Never had a problem parking in Lewes. Parked at my house (When George & Graham cabs didn't take up all the spaces) and WALKED.
Ah, the fine old art of walking. Taking strolls in rain, inhaling the smell of dog (And cat) poo. Avioding brown muddy piles of above mentioned.
Taking a stoll thought the many overgrown parks, littered with Chav & his friends, recieving abuse & death threats. Ah, to live in Seaford eh phil! Must be bliss!

Seaford?
Bliss?
Yes and No Gary.
As yet no parking probs... but a note was put through the door a couple of weeks ago asking what parking changes would you like to see in your area?
Reminded me of how the Lewes charades started.
Also is bl**dy windy here... or a gentle breeze as the locals call it.
Else it's ok.

OK phil, gotta admit something. I got out of Lewes & Saltdean. Now I live in Florida.
The only I have to contend with here are Northerners. Bleedin brits from Manchester messing up my town!! Where are all the southerners...

All the southerners are as far away from the northeners as we can possibly be.

Florida sounds v nice indeed Gary. Wonder when/why you upped stakes and moved there? Do you like the Florida lifestyle?
Good sun shine but beware the hurricanes maybe?
As for me...
I left Lewes after the Floods.
Technically I didn't get flooded (just 4ft of foul, murky water lurking under the floor boards) but many friends and neighbours did.
The stresses and strains of that event coupled with the later lack of will on the part of the authorities to invest in flood defenses(typical UK) helped make up my mind to move.
Truly I still like Lewes and it's people v much (born and bred there was I) but high property prices which IMHO is causing any odd bit of ground to be built on has made the town feel claustrophobic.
I'm uncertain the last time you visited but the Lewes parking scheme along with it's multitude of signs, arrows, road markings, park meters and wardens dressed like redundant bandsmen has made the character streets look like a childs playmat.
Can always send you a few pics...
