Lewes estates are advertising the eco homes development on the Avenue. Does this mean the rumours about Rees Elliot being in financial trouble and Phil Cox going under are untrue ? So far no diggers at the site. Anyone know anything more concrete about when building work expected to start ?

thanks mog. So now I wonder why they are advertising the development if the builders are bankrupt...i guess they will find other builders. or maybe hoping to get the eventual buyers to cough up and buy 'off plan' to fund it ?

If you look at the companies house website there is also a Philcox (Bros) Ltd in Lewes.

As has been said on other threads, only one of several Philcox companies went bust. So this may have been some sort of economic rationalisation intended to sort things out so that they're in a better position to build the houses.

The sort of 'economic rationalisation' that leaves creditors to whistle whilst carrying on in another name?

Not neccessarily, it depends on the corporate structure of the group. If the bust company was owned by another, holdings company then creditors would likely get at least some of their money back from the parent. If however it's an individual that owns every company and they aren't linked other than through him the creditors are indeed sool, unless they were foresighted enough to get a personal guarantee from the director on the debt. If anyone feels the company was deliberately ditched in order to swerve bills in this way, they can complain, I think to Companies House who would investigate and could ban the director from being the director of any other companies for a period.

Talking of eco homes, has anyone been to Stanmer Park to see the 'Earthship'? I'd never heard of it until the other day so went along and saw it. A bungalow made of car tyres and other bits and bobs, rendered in other stuff with bits of straw. Some of the flooring is made up of off-cuts from black marble headstones but it looks stunning. Glass bottles were also used for a dividing wall which was very pretty. If you're a bit of a hippy, you will love it. Just google 'Earthship Brighton'.
Sounds a bit stone age but the solar panels, a wind turbine and a water recycling system makes it rather high tech. Very clever I thought.
