Lewes Crown Post Office is under threat.
On January 19th Post Office Ltd announced plans to franchise 39 of its branches, and close three.
Lewes Post Office is on the list of those to be franchised once a suitable retailer is found. This franchising is not for our benefit.
Lewes is a busy Post Office. Customers will be all too clearly aware of the queues frequently experienced at peak times.
Basically, the Post Office wants to sell the valuable Victorian building that our branch is housed in.
Putting it into a local shop, will lead to longer queues, less services offered, and an all round inferior service, which will affect businesses and individual customers. Anyone who has visited Ringmer Post Office will be aware of this kind of service.
Our Post Office has been on the same site for over 100 years. We have to stop this move.
Thank you

It could however be open for longer hours, including Sundays if it were to be in a shop. This has happened to sub post offices in other areas.

I had the pleasure to visit this PO on Thursday, yes the queue was out of the door.......but it was made up of 7 people. Including 2 mothers with pushchairs, not together, 1 wheelchair user, and 4 people standing. There were 4 tills open. The person in front of me bought TWO first class stamps, I didn't even think one could buy odd stamps !!
So it looks busy, but the queue moved really quickly.

I don't know why you included me with Big man and Theo, we are all separate as far as I'm aware. Don't think I made a spelling mistake though Kyle, a few grammar ones granted!
Am I spelling 'pompous bore' correctly?

Serious Question. Other than a passport, what does the post Office do that you can't get in shops like Tesco, WH Smiths etc? I can't think of anything. All seems a bit extravagant to me.

It sends things, Terry Traveller? Or am I missing something here?

I send lots of things. I have lots of things delivered. Not set foot in the Lewes 'Crown" (where did that title come from?) post office to do that. If the Lewes Crown (Ma'am) post office closes, I'm sure things will still be able to be sent. Or am I missing something here?
