has this solar farm been given the go-ahead ? Driving past yesterday it looks like work is starting, but haven't seen anything about it. Good news if it has.

No it hasn't - shame because it will be a lot cheaper than the nuclear power stations they are going to build and a lot less waste to clear up for next 10k years. Mind you people voted for them in Lewes I suppose

I don't think it's a shame Paul. Solar farms are a good thing but for crying out loud, try & use your grey matter. It is an absolute outrage that we are looking to ruin even more wonderful countryside in Britain. I suspect that it's subsidy chasing by the landowner, pure & simple.
There are plenty of roofs on the warehouses & distribution centres that have already blighted the countryside. They cover tens of thousands of acres in the UK and are more suitable sites for solar panels.

You need an opposing opinion, Dexter. I hold it.

This solar farm was given planning permission back in the Spring, conditional on the corky-fruited water dropwort on the site being protected. Part of it is on 'Best and Most Versatile' agricultural land, but the fact that people have to ask whether it has been built shows that, in landscape terms, the site is about as good as you can get in Lewes District. It is pretty well invisible to the public - a good thing in my personal opinion, as to me they seem incongruous in the countryside and far better mounted on large roofs.
There has been some hassle about the security cameras and poles they want to install, not yet quite resolved. They will probably get a lot of deer photos.

Has it really been built? I ask as my house faces right towards it and I've not noticed a thing, apart from the signs along the A26.
