Just tried the chip shop in the old Casbar, excellent, if you have missed having real COD, with your chips, that was definately real cod tonight, thank you chippy, I will be back!
Other shops in town are miss selling nasty frozen whiting as cod, not good.

The fish is cooked to order. Just enough time to sample a good pint in the Brewers opposite while waiting!
I will definitely use them again.

Where the god damn hell can I go for a proper greasy, disgusting plate-filling gut-buster of a full English though? I almost wept just after Christmas when I went up there on a Sunday morning to find them flogging fish!

Crash - is the Market Café still going in Brighton? The 'Gut-buster' at 3.00am Sunday morning took some beating.

The cafe opposite the hospital does a delicious, non-greasy plateful of full English, but isn't open Sundays.
For Sundays, we go down to Newhaven and have breakfast at Warren's café, tucked away under the flyover in an unprepossessing portacabin. Good breakfasts, and great value, but not as nice the ones served by Viv in Nevill Road.
Warren's is worth the trip just for the banter with Warren's dad, who claims he's forced to sleep in a box in the kitchen and fed scraps.

Unfortunately I will have to disagree... After trying this shop twice and being extremely happy with the fish and chips received unfortunately it was not third time lucky!
We received great service however upon taking our fish and chips home the fish was burnt, rubbery and there was no fish inside... It was not edible and my partners was the same. We called up and explained and then took back. They agreed and apologised and gave us two new sets of fish and chips with a extra piece of cod. On getting that lot home we were even more dissapointed to see the exact same thing... Burnt rank fish... All greasy batter and no fish! We didn't complain again and just ate the chips. The normal guy in there wasn't serving and I can only imagine why that's why

Agreed with ACT, Warren's rules and Daddy Warren is a gem. If you go in during the week you don't need to be too sensitive to a bit of language. After all, this is the North Quay workers' canteen.

I'm glad I'm not the only fan of Warren Snr! He should have his own tv show, he's really funny. Great character.
I like it in the winter when they have the log burner going. It's really cosy up near the fire.

I've just been walking round the town and noticed that the volunteer is now serving breakfast from 10am each day. Not tried as yet but could be an idea.

Unfortunately I read this thread after eating at the Lewes Fish Bar Last night. I went in to what seemed a perfectly good choice of takeaway. On entering the shop there were two gentleman behind the counter, who I assumed must be the new owners, as Cashbah had been on the market, as a going concern, for quite some time. Two gentleman were having a meal at a table. We walked up to the counter and placed most of our order. I then asked the person serving, which dairy free, Soya free options were on the menu, as I have a son with severe allergies to both. The man stated he could have a chicken fillet burger with just the chicken with a kids meal so I ordered it. He said it would be 8 minutes, so we sat down and waited. 20 minutes later, still no food, and the shop was filling up, some lads from Lewes Grammar came in and ordered, as did a group of girls, and men wanting take away. Another man walked in for an eat in Saveloy and Chips. All these people were given there orders, and 20 minutes Later we were still waiting :-(
It was then that the man eating the saveloy took it back to the counter saying it was raw and stone cold in the middle. The man serving then called me to say my food was finally ready, and that he thought there may be one extra chips, but the rest would all be there too.
At this point I was rather dubious, but starving, so over £30 lighter we rushed home with dinner. Only to find I had paid for lots I hadn't got, like cheesy chips, which had no cheese.
After making the best of the Bad Grub, we set about the usual bath and bed routine with the kids. Everything seemed fine until 10pm that night when my son with the allergies woke up screaming and rolling round in pain, said he felt sick, very high temp, and red rash everywhere. I was up with him all night.
This morning I rang up and spoke to the manager, who owned Cashbah, so obviously just trying to cover up a bad reputation with a new name. I asked her to check the ingredients in the bun and chicken again, as I was convinced he had had Milk, Soya, or both. She then lectured me for feeding my son the food, her staff had said was ok for him, the bun and the chicken both had Milk and Soya, so lucky my son did not end up in hospital or dead. I will be reporting them, but am posting this before they Kill someone, or worse!

Why is it so impossible to get decent fresh fish in Lewes - we have it all on our doorstep and if chippies don't want to deal direct with the Newhaven fresh fish suppliers they can always source via Terry's in the Riverside. Ironically Bickerstaffes down at the Newhaven quayside supply many London restaurants and also sell at Borough market (heavily inflated prices) but the local 'eateries' don't buy from them, but prefer to buy the revolting frozen fish off a factory ship.

found it to be superb nice big bag of chips and when we asked for a battered burger he looked very confused but after describing that it like a battered sausage without the bun he was happy to make and even asked if it correct before bagging ..
Superb service just like it used to be at south street

I completely agree with you Belladonna, and wanderer, we are talking about Lewes Fish Bar, not South Street.
