Some one has to do it and they have to come from somewhere, as long as the buggers know how keep the war memorial clear and when to clear the road into the precint & the top of Station Street as we come through on the night, frankly my dears I dont give a damm.

We've been recruiting for a while now. The requirement for good spoken English is essential, as the ability of most of our members is tenuous at best.
More details in our Bonfire guide and tickets to our event still available.

Due to Tory cuts, police numbers at bonfire are being drastically reduced. Many smaller celebrations, such as Rotherfield, have lost their police and instead just have a car on call.
There were very few police at Nevill on the weekend and some stewards being used to check tickets at the firesite.
I'm assuming personnel are still required for the risk assessments to be met. These are all agreed through the Safety Advisory Groups with the police etc.
I must say it did take something away from the spirit of it having private security in high-vis on the gates etc, but as long as they can control the crowds and keep the roads clear I have no problem. Besides, they have no power of arrest (other than citizens') so they can't do much about people dropping rookies which is only a good thing...
Hopefully they can control the crowds and allow us to have a loud bonfire again.
However it seems odd to neglect any mention of the rookies in the job description. I imagine they'll import lots of outsiders who have no clue what is going on, to police loads of visitors who have no clue what is going on!

police pulle dput of marshaling years ago - now only a presence. The new security look terified, no one tells them what to expect, possib;y not worth the money when they see what it entails.
