i took a walk around the graveyard at the allsaints church the other day, and was very upset and disapointed at the lack of care... There was a pile of garden waste plus other bits of rubbish piled at the back on graves and random chairs and a sleeping bag on the floor... And dog poo... The entrance from the street up to the back of the church has been shut and is over grown and dirty... I would of thought more care and respect would have been taken to keep a lovely bit of history in lewes nice to walk around... And goes with out saying the lack respect for the dead is disturbing... Rant over...

Its always been a bit of a mess. I hate to say this but according to our venerable leaders much beloved 'Big Society' you should organise a clean up yourself.

There's no one buried in there, they were all exumed years ago when the church was decomissioned(which sadly makes it ripe for developement)But it is a haven for town wildlife as is st john sub castro..part of Lewes' wildlife havens.

There are people buried there. Just because a church yard is classifed as "closed"doesn't mean exhumation has taken place!! There is a family vault to the Godfrey family at the back. Richard Godfrey excavated the Priory ruins not so many years ago.A closed church yard simply means no longer available for burials and the church was deconsecrated. St John's and St Michael's are also closed.

yes there are people buried there and being a single parent doesnt quite give me the time to arrange such things... It should be being looked after... Its just sad to see such a pretty place have such lack of care..

I know Grimes it's sad - but if you suggest to 'the powers that be' these days that 'it should be looked after' the answer will come back, 'we agree but do it yourself'!

they were not exhumed, where did you glean this information from? It never happens.

I wish the strimmers would leave St Johns SubCastro alone... They treat it like a municipal park when it was once a wildlife haven. I think there's a Mr Andy Frost in the Council who's behind it.

The Town Council own All Saints, so down to them. They should be able to afford it, as their the only body that increased their cut of our council tax this year!

Just don't even get us started on what the Town Council 'should' be doing at All Saints...

The Town Council have a very helpful ranger.
If someone cares to pop into the town hall and tell him what is wrong at the All Saints, I'm sure he will be more than happy to check it out.

That is a very helpful comment vox. But surely wit a manager and an assistnt there, one of them should have reported it.
