Hi everyone.
I recently moved to Lewes, choosing it mainly for its peace and quiet. But I've noticed a lot of aeroplanes overhead today. Is this common? Or is it just the wind is in a weird direction today? Just wondering if I need to get used to it
Many thanks

Lewes is directly under the point where the two stacks for Gatwick Airport meet. At times the airport does get extremely busy, and aircraft are directed to stack and wait for their landing slot. It's not unusual to see aircraft circling 3, 4, even 8 times before heading off to land.
It's something that you'll soon get used to, though the DHL et al aircraft can be a tad noisy going overhead in the early hours.

If you mean airliners then its not something I notice much. Generally they are much quieter than in the past but atmospheric conditions affect the transmission of sound. There are a fair no of light aircraft who transit the area en route from Shoreham as they use the area to the east of Lewes to practice manouvering etc. Still seems quite tranquil to me though.

Lewes is particularly quiet around November time. You will love it then, very peaceful :-)
