I have a great idea. Lets paint all the street lights different colours. A tenners worth of paint should do it. That would leave enough for the council fat cats christmas dinners. Ta Daaaa

why not use the thousands of our hard earned cash that is pumped into the parking meters to fund christmas lights. thats if there is anything left after NCP and the council members have taken their slice !

The lights don't work they are worn out. Each year the Chamber of Commerce and the Late Night Shopping people try to work miracles with them. This time it wont work they have had it. So £9,000 is needed over three years to light up the town at Xmas.
Seems to me we should either decide we want to celebrate Xmas in the traditional way or forget it. If we want the town lit up then we need to raise the money to do it properly, business, council maybe even indviduals?

Yer lucky to have street lights let alone cheery Xmas ones.
Anyway,lets get real.
You can't seriously want to illuminate that abortion occasionally known as "Lewes High Steet?"... the former shopping centre, now haunted by groups of marauding unemployed bandsmen.
Best keep it in the dark IMHO.

Govt should pay. The stingy birds of prey are trying to get all previously-govt-services paid for by volunteers and private business and private individuals.
Nearly said 'Chamber of Commerce should pay' but they already pay tons of taxes to the govt as it is. Lewes local govt benefit if Lewes has more visitors on the streets as people = more business trade = more business rates (not parking fees, under my master plan, see seperate massage).....
