It’s a bit of a heavy read but an awful lot of straightforward logic and facts and well worth a read.

The bottom line I suppose is that if we don’t start social distancing now an awful
lot more people will die as there is no way the NHS will be able to cope with the huge spike in demand for intensive care beds.
We are already past the point that Wuhan was at when they locked the city down.
One slight piece of good news is that the cases in the UK are evenly spread around the country whereas in Italy they are much more concentrated in the north where their health service is overwhelmed.

You know why this is happening now don't you , you sinners? ...It's divine judgement on the evil brexiteers. " God said, you can do what you want but the next time you we me coming you'd better run."(Dylan) It reminds me of the Daily Express headlines which used to amuse me so much predicting apocalyptic weather every other week. This is fear porn, for goodness sake, why are you pimping it? Is this a party political broadcast again? Whose agenda are you pushing this time? Extermination Request? As far as Italy is concerned there are 217 deaths a day from the "normal" flu, how does that grab you? Another thing, there are hundreds of thousands~ you can fact check this~ of Chinese leather workers in Italy. Could that explain some things?

Tom. This might prove to be another example of man's apocryphal instinct that is proven to be, like sars and bird flu, just a scare or it may be something much more serious as many scientists are saying. We can't know yet and let us hope that it becomes something we look back on and laugh about how stupid we were to panic like some of us appear to others to be doing. Until we know, it is probably wise to take a few precautions and not be too dismissive of what people who have actually investigated it are saying.

Thousands of highly trained experts like... the fellow who created the piece linked by webbo? Have you read it? Have you checked his sphere of expertise? Did you notice any medical qualifications or experience? In the centre of the crowd baying for a knockout.... Dave and Jack the Ripper! Does anyone fall for this puerile smear by association garbage apart from Dave? I do take the situation seriously and take sensible precautions and so should everybody. Plenty of garlic, chili, vitamin c,oily fish, turmeric and that sort of stuff and a positive outlook. This might be the time the cry wolfers are right but I also remember swine flu, bird flu, zika, ebola all touted by those highly qualified scientists as the next plague. I've certainly had enough of those jolly hockey sticks.

Really got only the vaguest idea what you are going on about Tom but happy to see you are still alive. More entertaining than anything on the 'lewes' present site except for the posts where Symes is trying to justify his latest censorship. Who does that man think he is?

Nevill man, you really don’t like him do you? I think I have said before, why not just browse Lewes Present for its novelty value? It always gives me a laugh. At the moment it is full of people saying the right thing, but in reality, probably doing nothing at all!

Correct sleeveless. I really don't like him and regard him as a serious threat to the cause of free speech. I cannot browse his site as he has barred me from even seeing it as he didn't like me questioning his censorship during the last election. He tried to justify political censorship and was unable to so did what political censors do and tried to shut me up. It may get boring but I will attack him and anyone else who tries to tell me what I can say and read to the end.

I don't know how he's done it sleeveless but I assure you that from my Facebook account, even if I search for lewes present, it does not come up. There must be a way that an administrator can bar individuals from seeing their site. I wouldn't object if he called it Mick Symes site but by calling it lewes present it purports to be a lewes community site. I have just tried googling it and not going through my Facebook site but again it will not come up.

Thank you green sleeves. Incognito tab did it. I am now happy that I am not missing out on anything apart from hysteria on the Symes site but it will be handy to occasionally discover what posts he is allowing from time to time.
David. Whether democracy is a good idea of not I'm not in favour of allowing any individual to decide what I can read or say. When it is someone with the values of Symes even less so.
Basil. One day you might give us some evidence to back this statement up. Just repeating it on any thread you see does not make it true. Many people voted leave because they were persuaded that all the EU regulations affecting business, employment and consumers are bad. You will soon see what real neo liberalism looks like.

There are definitely degrees of neo liberalism basil. Even in the USA which is amongst the most neo liberal countries, there is state intervention and regulations. A truly neo liberal country would have a government for defence and internal security only. The EU has considerably more state intervention than the USA or the amount that the UK will have after Brexit rolls out. Your question leaves me wondering if you actually know what your 'neo liberal project' mantra means.

The thing is we have a chance of getting rid of neo-liberalism here. In the EU we would have no chance because the neo-liberal project is its purpose. Unless you imagine it is some kind of social democratic project.

Further to your point and developing mine basil, the EU is Pro capitalist ie private individuals and firms creating the wealth but with controls and regulations. The extent to which there are controls on capitalism determines the extent to which an economy is neo liberal. Many of these controls are likely to go as we leave the EU so we will become more neo liberal. You presumably believe that out of the EU we will be able to have more control of capitalists. I really don't know what makes you think that and would like to know.
I think you confuse capitalism and neo liberalism. I accept capitalism and the profit motive as necessary evils for a prosperous society having given up my anti capitalist stance many years ago. I suspect you are struggling with that basil. If things get very bad and the economy tanks, there may be some kind of 'socialist' government that takes wealth creation from individuals and gives it to the state. Evidence suggests this would not be a good outcome. Humans are essentially too corrupt. The best we can hope for is some control of capitalism and use of the wealth it creates to redistribute income. In my opinion the EU offered the best hope for that.

Nevillman, your mate’s website has a couple of interesting posts regarding Covid 19. One claims that no-one is to use anti-inflamatories and another claims doctors in India have been successfully with a combo of drugs and also, Plasma from recently recovered patients can treat others.
Personally, I prefer to hear such news from authorised sources!
