They were interested but withdrew*. My guess is that the building is in too much of a state.

@A person. You may not want a Wetherspoons in Lewes, but many of us do. We would also welcome the competition, which could lower the price of enjoying a drink in other establishments.

Yerrrr @Sussexdrinker - I am looking forward to having a pint of stella for under £4! Stella has been taken off the taps in most Lewes battles and it aint on!

I understand that Wetherspoons really want the Barclays Bank building, and that Indigo Hotels are taking The Crown.

More to the point, Dixie: you can get a good pint of real ale, or a glass of wine for under £3 in most JWDs- and free with many meals.

Not sure why Indigo would be interested in this sort of site as it seems quite small. If they are it isn't that exciting - they are a fake, 'boutique', brand of one of the big international hotel chains. It tells us a lot about how these people are viewing Lewes as a 'destination' town however.

Trouble is Sussex drinker - weatherspoons will pretty much be the death of many other pubs in Lewes. Ones that do far more for the town, have a better atmosphere and aren't just purely about money.
You can see what having 3 big supermarkets has done to the high st, pubs will go the same way.
