Sunday Times magazine, front cover, the man who said Lewes was "too white"! He has written an article about living with prejudice in Lewes, and he gives this forum a mention. He also mentions DFL's and some of the posts that have appeared in here, including the one about his original appearance in The Times property section where he also called the town "twee".

Well Mr David James Smith (because he will be reading this), the reason Petal felt visible in the town was not due to her colour, but your original comments. You have now probably made things worse for your wife and children in terms of making them feel visible. Your children are probably cringing and wondering what you will come out with next. On this forum I don't think anyone made racist comments, you were told to go back to London because you made disparaging comments about the town we love.

Surely you realised when you first moved to Lewes that there was a chance that your family would be one of the few black/mixed race families here, and of course, they are likely to stand out, BUT that doesn't make people racist. Also, if it is so bad, why didn't you move once your lease on your rented house finished, to another town- you stayed in Lewes.

I think has more to do with Mr Smith's new book coming out and his need for publicity at our expense...best ignored and forgotten as that way he (and by association Lewes) will disappear off the media radar. It does seem a shame though that we have all been abused in this way and I for one (who has actually read the article today) feel that the examples he used were the product of an over-sensitive soul seeing racist shadows where they simply do not exist!

Sensationlast rubbish. What some people will write to ensure their article makes the front page (as it were). You've got to feel a bit sorry for his kids though.
