What is happening with this? I thought Waitrose bought it a couple of years ago.
If they have no plans to do anything with it then why not sell it off to someone who wants to make use of the site.
It is big enough to put a little arcade of shops on.

I think you'll find that Waitrose will put in for a rebuilt larger store in due course. They might wait until Santon get permission, so that they have taken all the flak from the nimbys.
Personally, I would far prefer a proper John Lewis / Waitrose store within the Santon site. Surely it's not beyond imagination for them to build a single storey store on pillars - allowing floodable car-parking beneath - with a landscaped public open-space on the roof overlooking the river.
Tin hat on...

Ive been to a few newly developed Waitrose stores recently and all have been rather nice, fitted neatly and unobtrusively into their surroundings and were imaginative when it cam to the the use of space and car parking - just wish they would get on with it in here!
