The petition to add the names omitted from the Lewes War Memorial was left behind the bar at the Elly when I was away so I was unable to ask any questions about it.
Last night I was asked if any names were missed off due to a conscious choice by relatives and couldn't answer the question.
I can see from the Sussex Express that some names were submitted too late and that some people died later due to their injuries but does anyone know if this is the case for all the names?
I can also see that there is a fund for putting the names up but it doesn't say how much they are trying to raise or who is behind the campaign/fund raising.
Just to preempt any backlash, I do agree that the names should be added providing relatives wish it or it wouldn't go against the beliefs of the people who died. I do know of a number of people who served in the War who returned or destroyed their medals in protest and would not have wanted to be honoured in a memorial.

And whilst they are at it ,and if there is any money left in the pot , could a small sign be put in place especially for the hard of thinking and less respectful , not to use it as a picnic bench ! Gets right on my t@t's and its normally people of a certain age and not youngsters , phew need a lie down now
